Utilities for TracePro

TracePro utilities assist in quickly and accurately creating surface, surface source, and fluorescence properties, import IES, bitmap source and BSDF information,  a texture optimizer for display design and an interactive optimize. Inputs include data from physical measurements, manufacturers' data and industry standards.  The following utilities are available directly from the Utilities menu in TracePro. 1.

Solar Utility - New in TracePro 7.3 - A fully automated interactive solar analysis utility 
Bitmap Source – Import graphics files and export TracePro txt file source format, see our Bitmap Source Section for more information 
Surface Source Property Generator – Digitizer and verification utility to import source intensity versus angle and spectral data
Fluorescence Property – Digitize in fluorescence info - Expert Edition

Interactive Optimizer – In the LC Edition only the interactive geometry modelers and interactive raytrace functions are available. In the Standard and Expert Edition all functions are operable for complete optimization of your design. See our optimization section for complete details on this utility.


Solar Utility


A fully automated interactive solar analysis utility. This new utility analyzes solar collector systems using dialogs to specify geographical location, period of sun travel, and user defined irradiance. Analysis output includes irradiance and candela maps, with total flux and efficiency over time on the target.

Surface Source Property Utility

The Surface Source Property Utility helps users set up the TracePro surface source property - quickly and accurately. The tool reads the spectrum and angular radiation pattern directly from the manufacturer's data sheet. While useful for LEDs, this tool can also be used to generate a surface source property for any type of light source.

Fluorescence Property Utility for White LED Design

The Fluorescence Property Utility helps users optimize down converting phosphor formulations and excitation LEDs selection in white LED design. It also facilitate the creation of the fluorescence material property in the TracePro model.  The macro tool reads both the excitation, absorption and emission luminescence spectra of the material and the relative spectral power distribution of the excitation LED from the manufacturers' data.  While useful for white LED design, this tool can also be used to generate a fluorescence property for any type of energy converting material.

IES Import Utility

TracePro's IES Import Utility helps users import photometric data in ANSI/IESNA standard electronic file formats to TracePro Surface Source and File Source Properties. The Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IESNA) publishes "IESNA Standard File Format for the Electronic Transfer of Photometric Data and Related Information."  The most recent publication, LM-63-02, was ANSI approved September 12, 2002 and is available at www.techstreet.com .  The TracePro IES Import Utility adheres to this most recently published standard.

Textured RepTile Optimization Utility

The Textured RepTile Optimization Utility helps users optimize structured Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) backlight components including Brightness Enhancement Films (BEFs), Turning Films, and extraction features in light guides. With a TracePro model of the LCD, the utility generates and optimizes a Textured RepTile property for uniformity or flux. While useful for optimizing structured backlight components, this tool can also be used to optimize any Textured RepTile in TracePro.

BSDF Conversion Utility

The TracePro® BSDF Converter provides you with an easy way to transform measured BSDF data into a TracePro Surface Property file. Once the measurement data are imported, the utility will automatically compute the best-fit A, B, and g value for each incident direction. The utility also allows you to manually adjust the A, B, and g values with real-time updating of graphical display of the BSDF. You can select the export type of the surface property file, either ABg model or Asymmetric Table BSDF.
