Sharing (Exporting/Importing) TracePro Properties

Question

How can I share properties that I have created in TracePro with other TracePro Users in my company?

Synopsis

Sharing (Exporting/Importing) TracePro Properties

Solution

There are three methods for sharing TracePro properties:

(1) View/Options - If you select View/Options in TracePro, there is a field labelled " Properties Database", showing a path to a .db file. This is the file that contains all of the properties used by TracePro. This file can be renamed and copied to other PC's, but this would be a ""one time only"" synchronization of the property data. Another option is to have all TracePro users point to the same .db file located on one user's PC or perhaps on a network server. The risk with this approach is that other users can edit properties that you are using for your model, and there would be no warning of this change when you ran a ray trace.

(2) Tools/Database/Export - With a TracePro file open, this option creates a text file that includes the data for all of the properties used in that specific TracePro .omlb file. This text file can be copied to another PC or e-mailed, and then Tools/Database/Import will add the properties to that users .db file.

(3) Property Editor - Import/Export

- Any individual property that is viewed in the Property Editor can be exported as a text file (File Menu, also a toolbar icon in some of the editors). This text file will be for a single property only, and the property can be imported by going to the appropriate Property Editor and selecting File/Import Property. It can also be imported by Tools/Database/Import.

- Any Property Catalog selected in the Property Editor can be exported as a text file (File/Export Catalog). This single text file will include the data for multiple properties, and the property can be imported by Tools/Database/Import.
