Showing a surface when drawing a lens

Question

OSLO does not seem to show some surfaces in my lens. Why is this? How do I force a surface to be shown when I draw a lens?

Synopsis

Showing a surface when drawing a lens

Solution

Try the following:
  • Make sure the Aperture Radius of your surface is large enough to be seen in the scale of your drawing
  • If you meant the surface in question to have an index change from the surface before it, make sure this has been designated properly
Please note: OSLO assumes that the user does not want to see surfaces where the index of refraction is the same as the surface before it. If this is the case in your system and you still want to see the surface in your drawing, you can force any individual surface to be drawn by performing the following steps (note that this works for the object and image surface as well):
  1. Click in the grey box in the SPECIAL column of the appropriate surface
  2. Choose "Surface Control(F) >> General" from the resulting pop-up list
  3. In the resulting Surface Control Dialog, change "Surface appearance in lens drawing" to "Drawn"
  4. Click on the green check in the upper left corner of the dilaog box and refresh the graphics window with the drawing of your lens
