Comparing Tilt values in OSLO vs TracePro after importing OSLO lens file
Purpose
This article describes the method to verify/compare the tilt angles after importing an OSLO Lens File into TracePro. OSLO uses traditional optical design tilt angles, and TracePro uses Euler angles, so the comparison of angle values is not direct.View Tilt Angle Values
In OSLO:
- select "C" in the Special Column
- select Coordinates from the list
- view "Position Referenced to Surface 1"
- TLA, TLB, TLC are the values to compare to TracePro
In TracePro:
- right-click on each object
- select Modify
- view the Position tab
- First Surface Tilt X, Y, Z are the values to compare to OSLO
Transpose Angles
To obtain the proper rotation angles in TracePro, the object needs to be rotated using these OSLO values in this sequence:
- +TLC
- -TLB
- -TLA
Test/Demonstration
To demonstrate the transposition of the OSLO Tilt values into TracePro, the TracePro angles can be reset to 0, and then the TracePro object can be rotated about each axis:
- open an OSLO lens file in both OSLO and TracePro
- in OSLO, view the coordinates
- in TracePro, make a copy of the object
- rename the Copy
- right-click on the Copy, select Modify, select the Position tab
- set First Surface Tilt X, Y, and Z values to 0, click Modify Lens
- right-click on Copy, select Rotate
- check the box for Origin of Object WCS
- +TLC rotation
- enter Rotation Angle = +TLC from OSLO
- set Axis = About Z
- Apply
- -TLB rotation
- enter Rotation Angle = -TLB from OSLO
- set Axis = About Y
- Apply
- -TLA rotation
- enter Rotation Angle = -TLA from OSLO
- set Axis = About X
- Apply
- close Rotate Object dialog
- right-click on Copy, select Modify, note First Surface Tilt angles
- select the original object, note that the First Surface Tilt angles agree
