Are you moving away from FLEXlm licensing? Why? Who's licensing technology is associated with the new USB hardware key? We are currently using a virtual Windows systems for TracePro FLEXlm licensing, but our virtual server has no capability to read a USB device. Please advise on other options.

Synopsis

TracePro Network License on a virtual Windows system - unable to connect USB key

Solution

To support the 64-bit Version of TracePro 6.0, it was necessary that the licensing for TracePro 6.0 be changed. FLEXlm did not provide a 64-bit licensing option. The new licensing is provided by SafeNet ( http://www.safenet-inc.com/).

The available options for using the TracePro Network USB key are as follows:

1- We are aware of two possible solutions to this problem, a Network USB hub, and a USB over Ethernet solution (downside = cost). There may be other alternatives available, and we have not tested these to prove that they work for a TracePro Network License, these are simply two options that we have identified:

2- Connect the current Network Key to one of the TracePro User's PC's, and let that PC act as the TracePro License server (downside = the license will be unavailable to other users if that primary user shuts down the PC, and IT does not have any control)

3- Exchange the network license key (serving N seats of TracePro) key for N single-computer keys (downside = the users will need to pass the keys between themselves to share the licenses, and IT does not have any control). If you decide to exchange the Network Key for 2 Single-computer keys, please contact sales@lambdares.com to initiate that process.
