What to do if Norton or McAfee flags your OSLO EDU installer

Why antivirus might flag our installer

Some antivirus programs, including Norton, may flag the OSLO EDU installer with a generic label such as “IDP.Generic” or “IDP.ALEXA.54.” These alerts are behavior-based rather than detections of a known virus and are triggered because the installer unpacks files, runs standard Windows processes, and includes bundled components. These are normal installation steps, and we can confirm the installer is legitimate, digitally signed, and safe to use.

What to do next

1. Verify the file is legitimate

  • Check the digital signature: Right‑click the installer → Properties → Digital Signatures.

  • Ensure it’s signed by Lambda Research Corporation.

2. Add an exclusion (whitelist) to your antivirus

For Norton Antivirus / Norton 360:

  1. Open Norton and go to Settings → Antivirus.

  2. Select the “Scans and Risks” tab.

  3. Scroll to “Exclusions/Low Risks” and click Configure [+] next to “Items to Exclude from Scans”.

  4. Click Add Files or Add Folders, and select the OSLO EDU installer or its folder.

  5. Click OK (and Apply, if needed) to save changes.

For McAfee Antivirus:

  1. Open your McAfee app.

  2. Navigate to PC Security → Real‑Time Scanning → Excluded Files.

  3. Click Add file, then browse to and select the OSLO EDU installer.

If you’d rather skip Real‑Time exclusions, you can also exclude during custom or scheduled scans:

  • Go to Virus & Spyware Protection → Run a custom scan or Scheduled Scan.

  • Under Excluded Files and Folders, click Add Folder, and choose the directory containing the installer.

Stay safe, and thanks for using OSLO EDU!
