Incompatibility between National Instruments LabView software and Sentinel Keytag Driver used for OSLO and TracePro

Question

When installing TracePro or OSLO, I get an error message that the Sentinel Drivers failed to install. How do I resolve this?

Synopsis

Incompatibility between National Instruments LabView software and Sentinel Keytag Driver used for OSLO and TracePro

Solution

The TracePro or OSLO installation is also installing the Sentinel drivers that are used to communicate with the hardware key. The Sentinel Installation makes changes to the firewall settings for Ports 6001, 6002, 7001, and 7002, these are the ports used for communication with the Sentinel hardware key. If another application is using these ports during the Sentinel portion of the TracePro or OSLO installation, the entire TracePro or OSLO installation will fail.

Port 6001 is known to be used by LabView, a software program available from National Instruments.

UPDATE - The Sentinel/LabView conflict only impacts the portion of the Sentinel drivers needed for a Network license. The TracePro and OSLO installations no longer include the network portion of the Sentinel driver installation, so the TracePro or OSLO installation should never fail for this reason. However, Network License servers still need the complete Sentinel drivers, and the workaround below is applicable to those cases.

PERFORM THESE STEPS ONLY AT A TIME WHEN THE CONNECTION TO LABVIEW CAN BE DISRUPTED:

  • from the Windows Control Panel, select Administrative Tools/Services
  • right-click on each service that begins with "National" or "NI", and STOP each service
  • also right-click on the service name "Lookout Citadel Server" or "Lookup Citadel Server", and STOP that service as well.
  • (leave the Services window open)
  • run the Sentinel Protection Installer
  • back in the Services Window, START each of the services that was stopped earlier
The Sentinel services and LabView should now coexist without any issues.
