Synopsis

Comparison of CAD Import options for TracePro

Solution

The import options to TracePro can be obtained by selecting File/Open, then looking at the list of File Types that can be opened. The CAD options, in order of recommended use, are as follows:
  1. STP
  2. SAT
  3. IGS
  4. Direct CAD import (CREO/ProE, SOLIDWORKS, Inventor, etc.)
STP and IGS are "neutral" file formats that are industry standards. SAT files are in the ACIS format. One last comment comparing the "top 2" - STP and SAT. Since STP is a universal file format, CAD Programs perhaps do a better job of making sure their STP translators are working correctly, so STP might be more reliable.
