I am observing display issues in TracePro on my laptop. How can I fix this?

Synopsis

TracePro display issues on laptops with Switchable Graphics.

Solution

Many laptops are available with Switchable Graphics. They can run in a High-Performance mode or a Battery saving mode, and the Battery saving mode is typically the default setting. The graphics display in TracePro is complex, it requires the High-Performance mode.

Please go to the Windows Start Menu / Control Panel / Device Manager, and note the Display Adapters that are listed.

If there are two Display Adapters, there will usually be one from Intel (battery saving) and another from a name brand graphics card manufacturer (high performance).

If you would like to perform a quick test, right-click on the Intel display adapter and select Disable. Launch TracePro and create geometry/trace rays to test the display. If it works well, with the Intel graphics disabled that confirms the cause of the problem.

Disabling the Intel graphics resolves the TracePro issue, but it is not allowing the laptop to switch graphics as intended. The permanent resolution of the problem is to change the switchable graphics settings for your graphics card to run TracePro in High-Performance mode.

The specific instructions will differ for each graphics card. We recommend performing a web search for "switchable graphics settings" and include the specific manufacturer and model of your graphics card to find this information.
