When I plot the Ray Intercept Curve (RIC) Report Graphic, I notice that the axes of many of the individual graphs do not have labels on them. What are the labels on the plotted Axes?
Synopsis
Labels for graphs in Ray Intercept Curve report graphics
Solution
The Ray Intercept Curve Report Graphic is a compilation of individual graphical analyses. Since these are optical analyses that are standard for the optical design industry, the labels for the axes have been omitted in this report graphic to save space. OSLO provides individual graphs for each of these plots where the labels are noted. For convenience, the labels of the report graphic are described below. These explanations will be added to our on-line help in a future release of OSLO. RAY INTERCEPT CURVES Left diagram, Vertical Axis: DY (focal systems) Displacement from reference ray at image Left diagram, Vertical Axis: DYA (afocal systems) Angular displacement from reference ray in image space Left diagram, Horizontal Axis: FY Fractional pupil coordinates of ray Right diagram, Vertical Axis: DX (focal systems) Displacement from reference ray at image Right diagram, Vertical Axis: DXA (afocal systems) Angular displacement from reference ray in image space Right diagram, Horizontal Axis: FX Fractional pupil coordinates of ray (The different graphs top to bottom show different Ray Intercept Curves for each field point defined) ASTIGMATISM Vertical Axis: +FBY Fractional object coordinates of the reference ray Horizontal Axis: (focal systems) Displacement from image plane ( Z: measured parallel to the optical axis) Horizontal Axis: (afocal systems) Diopters of focal shift LONGITUDINAL SPHERICAL ABERRATION Vertical Axis: FYFractional pupil coordinates of ray Horizontal Axis: (focal systems) Displacement from image plane ( Z: measured parallel to the optical axis) Horizontal Axis: (afocal systems) Diopters of focal shift CHROMATIC FOCAL SHIFT Vertical Axis: wavelength Horizontal Axis: Displacement from the focal point at the primary wavelength ( Z: measured parallel to the optical axis) DISTORTION (%) Vertical Axis: Percent distortion of the reference ray compared to the paraxial image point Horizontal Axis: FBY Fractional object coordinates of the reference ray LATERAL COLOR Vertical Axis: Displacement from the primary wavelength reference ray at the image Horizontal Axis: FBYFractional object coordinate of the reference ray
