When I start a new lens and open up the Wavelength Data editor, I note that there are three wavelengths defined by default. How do I add or subtract wavelengths?
Synopsis
How to add or subtract wavelengths in an optical system
Solution
Once you are in the Wavelength Data editor (you can get there by going to the Surface Data Spreadsheet ("Lens>>Surface Data Spreadsheet" on the OSLO menu, then click on the "Wavelength" button at the top of the spreadsheet), you can change the number of wavelengths represented. Simply click the appropriate number button in the first column (the "Nbr" column) until the entire line is selected. Then right-click on the same "Nbr" button and you will see a pop-up menu where you can choose CUT, COPY, PASTE, INSERT BEFORE, INSERT AFTER, DELETE and REVERSE (REVERSE is really only useful if two or more lines of the Wavelength editor is selected). Note that this spreadsheet is similar to many other spreadsheets in OSLO, you can add, delete and edit lines of other OSLO spreadsheets using similar methods. DID YOU KNOW? Instead of editing the wavelength value manually in this spreadsheet, you can also click on the appropriate "Wavelength" cell again (after it has been selected and has "focus") and choose a wavelength from the resulting pop-up list of commonly used spectral lines.
