Modeling Lasers with TracePro
How do I import files into OSLO EDU?
Question: Can TracePro be used to model lasers?
Answer: TracePro can be used to model some aspects of laser sources, but not all. TracePro is a geometric ray tracing program. TracePro can be used to model laser beams and their paths, but it will not model electro-magnetic effects or Gaussian beam propagation.
The Grid Source in TracePro has options for Gaussian spatial and angular distributions, so some aspects of a Gaussian beam can be modeled this way. The Surface Source Property has an option for a Gaussian angular distribution.
Full modeling laser beams will typically require electro-magnetic or wave-based optical analysis software is beyond the capabilities of TracePro.
