There is a resolution to this problem.
Please go to C:/ProgramFiles/UltraEdit, right click on the UltraEdit application, then choose Properties. In the Properties dialog, choose the Compatibility tab, then check the following boxes:
* Compatibility Mode = Windows XP (Service Pack 2)
* Privilege Level = Run Program as Administrator
Click Apply, then launch the program, and this time when you enter the license information it should be stored correctly by the program
Please note that there is one incompatibility between Vista and UltraEdit 8.0 that does not have a workaround. The UltraEdit Help files are not compatible with Vista.
