Setting up a Fresnel Lens

Question

Do you have directions for setting up Fresnel lens in OSLO?

Synopsis

Setting up a Fresnel Lens

Solution

  1. Follow the Landscape Lens tutorial to get acquainted with the OSLO interface.
  2. Set up the lens system you want by entering the appropriate lens curvatures, thicknesses, air spaces, glasses, ...etc. Model the Fresnel surface as a regular lens surface with the curvature and aspheric departure (if any) that you want.
  3. To convert a "real" surface to a "Fresnel" surface, set the Fresnel parameter on that desired surface:
    • In the SPECIAL column of the Surface Data spreadsheet, choose "Surface Control(F) >> General" and set "Fresnel Surface" = "Yes".
    • If you want the Fresnel to be placed on a curved surface, enter the Base Curvature and Base Conic Constants here.
    • If you want the Fresnel lens substrate to be flat, leave the Base variables as zero.
Please note that OSLO calculates a "perfect" Fresnel lens surface. It has an infinite number of "facets" or "zones" which have no depth of their own. If you want to explicitly model individual facets of a Fresnel lens, you will need to use the non-sequential surface option in OLSO Premium.
