Question
"I imported a single object into TracePro from a STEP file. Next, I tried to scale it leaving the ""Scale position"" box unchecked, but the position appears to have scaled anyway. Why?"
Synopsis
Scaling geometry imported from STEP or IGES
Symptoms
"When an object is created in TracePro, or brought in from a SAT file, you can select Edit/Object/Orientation to view the orientation of the object. You can think of the object as a set of points relative to this orientation point. When a scaling operation is performed, the scaling is relative to this orientation, and if " Scale Position" is checked the "orientation point" is scaled relative to the origin. For objects imported from STEP or IGES, Edit/Object/Orientation always shows an orientation point of the origin (0,0,0). When scaling is performed with scale position unchecked, all the points of the object are scaled relative to the origin anyway, so the result is in effect a translation as well. The Scale Position box has no effect on these objects."
Workaround
To scale objects in a model that contains a mix of CAD imported objects along with TracePro created geometry, copy and paste the CAD objects to separate TracePro files - scale as desired - use Move to relocate - then copy and paste back to the original model.
