In the past, TracePo display issues were observed, and not error messages. This Knowledge Base article replaces one titled “TracePro display issues on laptops with Switchable Graphics

Solution

Many laptops are available with Switchable Graphics. They can run in a High-Performance mode or a Battery saving mode, and the Battery saving mode is typically the default setting. The graphics display in TracePro is complex, it requires the High-Performance mode.

Please go to Windows Settings, the selection is dependent on the operating system, in Windows 11 select System|Display|Advanced display.

If there are two items list under Display Information, one may be from Intel (battery saving), and another from a name brand graphics card manufacturer (high performance).

To perform a quick test, select “Display Adapter Properties” for the one expected to be lower performance. In the properties dialog that opens, find the selection to “Disable Device”. Launch TracePro and perform the same actions that caused the error message or display issues. If TracePro works well, with this graphics device disabled that confirms the cause of the problem.

Disabling the Intel graphics resolves the TracePro issue, but it is not allowing the laptop to switch graphics as intended. The permanent resolution of the problem is to change the switchable graphics settings for your graphics card to run TracePro in High-Performance mode.

The specific instructions will differ for each graphics card. We recommend performing a web search for "switchable graphics settings" and include the specific manufacturer and model of your graphics card to find this information.
