Did you know TracePro® can import lens design files? Lens design files are the output of lens design programs such as OSLO®, Code V®, and Zemax® OpticStudio®. Lens design files are also available for many catalog or off-the-shelf optical elements. TracePro can import many, but not all lens design files.
The ability to import lens design files is available in all editions of TracePro. To import a lens design file into TracePro, simply select File->Open and change the file type to match the type of lens design file you want to import. Lens design files can be opened in new model windows or added to existing TracePro models using Geometry->Insert Part. If there are any problems with the import, such as the lens using a glass that is not in the user’s TracePro property database, TracePro will display this information in the Message/Macro window.
In many cases, the imported lenses can be modified in TracePro by using the Lens Element dialog box in the Geometry menu in TracePro, or by right-clicking on the lens element and selecting Modify.
The ability to import lens design files directly into TracePro allows users to perform additional tasks, such as stray light analysis or opto-mechanical design in TracePro and take advantage of the additional analysis tools available in TracePro.
