OSLO

Software from Lambda Research is a perfect complement to any educational environment. If you are associated with an educational institution, you have three options for using our software:

Are you teaching or studying optical design or performing simple ray tracing?

You can use our free version of OSLO-EDU (download it here )

Are you doing university research?

You can purchase all of our software at a 25% discount (contact us )

Are you using our software as part of a class?

You may qualify for our reduced price policy covering the use of our most powerful editions of our software for teaching purposes (see educational links below).

OPTO-MECHANICAL MODELING SOFTWARE

TracePro is an award-winning solids-based ray tracing program that enables users to analyze, improve and validate the performance of opto-mechanical systems prior to fabrication. TracePro can evaluate light propagation to obtain uniform distributions, match specified flux levels or desired illumination patterns, observe stray light and other characteristics. TracePro is available in three editions; each edition is a superset of the previous edition. Our highest edition (TracePro Expert) will be made available to those who qualify for University use of the software.

Light Guide Design: Predict performance with optical modeling

Light Guide Design:
Predict performance with optical modeling; improve efficiency and spatial light output uniformity.

When to Use TracePro

TracePro is perfect for optics demonstrations of situations where the light path is not necessarily known in advance, that is, where light paths interact with objects multiple times in a seemingly chaotic order. Examples include: light pipes (where the light from a single LED might be channeled to a number of locations on a dashboard or display), backlighting (where light from a small number of sources combine to create a homogeneously backlit LCD screen), medical applications (where light is scattered or fluoresced from human tissue for non-invasive diagnosis), and stray light analysis (where light scattered inside a camera lens is analyzed to evaluate how badly the stray light will degrade the camera image).

Add-in for SolidWorks

The TracePro Bridge is an add-in to SolidWorks that allows users to apply and save optical properties directly to the SolidWorks model via the TracePro System Tree within SolidWorks. To insure data integrity, a single model is used by both TracePro for ray tracing and optical analysis and by SolidWorks for mechanical design and modifying optical material properties. With the Bridge, users significantly accelerate the iterative design process - all without sacrificing performance or functionality.

Light Guide Design:
Predict performance with optical modeling; improve efficiency and spatial light output uniformity.

When to Use the TracePro Bridge

The TracePro Bridge is perfect for Solidworks users who want to keep all of their model data in one place. The TracePro Bridge allows SolidWorks users to define their optical properties directly in Solidworks and export a TracePro native file ready for raytracing in TracePro.

OPTICAL DESIGN SOFTWARE

OSLO is the world’s most powerful and flexible optical design program with the capability to handle zoom camera systems, fiber couplers and everything in between. OSLO has powerful optimization features and its macro programming language will empower you with almost limitless capabilities for interactive design, analysis and fast ray tracing. OSLO is available in three editions; each edition is a superset of the previous edition. Our highest edition (OSLO Premium) will be made available to those who qualify for the University use of the software.

Interactive Evaluation: Sliders allow you to change multiple parameters in a system to see their effect

Interactive Evaluation:
Sliders allow you to change multiple parameters in a system to see their effect. Here a slider changes the angle of a scan mirror and see the changes in a spot diagram.

When to Use OSLO

OSLO is perfect for optical demonstrations of classical imaging systems and for teaching optical design concepts such as Focal Length, Numerical Aperture, Field of View, …etc. Examples include: optimization (explore how a single lens can produce such good performance in a CD player), tolerancing (find out how well a surface needs to be polished in a telescope to explore the rings of Saturn), analysis (explore diffraction and the fundamental limit that “perfect” optics can achieve), and testing (explore what went wrong with the Hubble Space Telescope).
